I am not sure if that had something to do with it, but Annie's momma wanted nothing to do with her. Annie was a fighter from the first moment she was born. She was bound and determine to survive. She was full of live and energy even though she had not nursed. Annie's birth mother had to be held and had 1 back leg tied in order to allow Annie to nurse to get adequate colostrum. After 24 hrs of this, Annie's mother slowed down on her milk production and was not producing enough milk to keep Annie perky. Meanwhile, we lost a different foal. This mare was never very protective so we thought we would try to see if she would adopt Annie, after a couple hours, Annie and her adoptive momma, Pat were settled in as if they were like any other normal momma and foal.
